About
Assalamualaykum! I am Mohammad Zafar, a Registered Social Worker (MSW) that is committed to hearing you out and truly understanding you. I specialize in working with individuals who are looking for a strengths-based approach to address issues they encounter. From troubled relationships, self-doubts, anxiety or addiction, I help my clients understand what their strengths are and how they can use them to address those issues in their life.
Many of us are often told what we're not doing right and the things that are wrong with us. I believe this not only dismisses the multiple other strengths we possess but also does not give us a chance to grow and learn about ourselves. You find yourself thinking about the same problem over & over again. You begin to think - when will it go away? You look at a friend and colleague and it seems as if they have it figured out but you don't. You're just looking for peace, but can't seem to find it.
Imagine what it would feel like to not have to go through this pain over and over again. Where you would not feel the need to keep these thoughts to yourself, hiding what is really going on inside from others. Imagine if you felt you had a sense of control over your life.
I operate from a needs-based & client-centered approach. My goal is to always provide efficient, focused therapy tailored to your needs. The therapeutic process can seem like a big step, or even time consuming. This is why I prioritize flexibility with my clients, where we work together at a pace they prefer, respecting their time and progress.
I am a firm believer in using faith and one’s relationship with Allah (swt) to cope with the hardships we experience. It’s important to remember that you can be close to Allah (swt) and still experience sadness, depression or anxiety. I do not believe faith is meant to take that away because some of the most righteous men & women experienced hardships too. I incorporate Islamic teachings in my practice through use of examples often relatable through examples of righteous men & women & the lessons we can draw from them. Allah (swt) would want you to know you're never alone in any struggle, and sometimes we just need to be reminded about that.
